Announcing Photoregister for Juvenile Products

One of the most regulated industries when it comes to consumer product safety is the juvenile products industry. Manufacturers of car seats, strollers, cribs, etc., face stringent federal requirements when it comes to the creation and sale of these products, as well as processes for notifying customers in the event of a safety concern or recall.

Yet with all the regulations, these brands still don’t have a foolproof way of contacting customers when a product needs to be recalled. Product manufacturers still rely on their customers to provide their contact information through product registration. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Kids in Danger (KID), only four percent of the more than 11 million children’s products recalled in 2013 were fixed or destroyed. And, the number of recalled children’s products continues to increase with an astounding 16,825,696 products recalled in 2014.

Changing consumer habits have likely contributed to the low number of products returned or fixed during recalls. People move more frequently and there’s not a great way to update their information once a product registration card is sent – if sent at all. In addition, digital interaction and mobile access has become a way of life: 90 percent of people own a mobile phone, and people rely more and more on social channels for news. And unfortunately, the product registration process has not kept up with these changes in consumer habits. Until now…

Today we are officially launching Photoregister for juvenile products companies. With Photoregister, manufacturers simply add a registration tag to their products, and parents can snap a photo of the code and text it to register: no apps or downloads required. Photoregister reads the registration code, and users instantly receive verification and a link to a secure, personal registration page to confirm their information. In the event of a recall, consumer notification is automated through email and text. This process not only saves brands money in postage and support costs, but it also complies with CPSC notification rules.

What’s more, it’s easy for consumers to update their information if they move. And, people who might be second-hand owners of baby and kid products have an easy way to make sure they receive recall information as well.
